Why Plastiserve decided to invest in ISO 9001 and ISO 14001

Independent polymer and masterbatch distributor, Plastiserve decided to invest in ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 as the business has grown rapidly in recent years and it was the right time to formalise processes.

We interviewed company manager, Andrew Young to find out a bit more. Andrew explained “The business is good at implementing new technology and becoming certified was a great way for us to maximise the impact of those investments on the service we provide to our customers.

Certainly, having ISO in place is a requirement for some of our customers but it was also important for us to review our current procedures and remove any potential barriers to future growth. There is no doubt that it will help us to win more business and help facilitate further expansion in our range of supplier options.”

The Process

Andrew reached out to several different suppliers to compare costs and certification timescales. He describes how he met with Mark numerous times before proceeding

“We went with Compliant as we knew that we wanted to work directly with Mark. For a small company like ourselves it was good to see how we could build the relationship with Compliant and make the certification work around the processes that we already have in place. We also valued the importance of using a UKAS accredited certification body, which we knew Compliant could facilitate.”

The Outcome

The Leeds based business became ISO certified within timescales and budget with Andrew adding “Communication was fantastic throughout. The expectations and requirements of both sides were really clear and this allowed an extremely smooth process. The Stage 1 audit was very positive and we were therefore already well prepared for stage 2; it was a gentle evolution. We discussed what the business will need going forward and were able to use Mark’s experience in other fields to future proof some of the procedures we introduced.”
