We are proud to announce that Compliant Ltd has become a Certified B Corporation, officially recognising our commitment to balancing profit with purpose. B Corp certification is an internationally recognised designation for companies that meet the highest verified standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. To earn this status, a business must undergo the rigorous B Impact Assessment across five key impact areas (governance, workers, community, environment, and customers) and score at least 80 points overall. Achieving B Corp status is more than a badge – it signals that we have undergone third-party validation of our practices. In practice, it means we join a global community of companies that build trust with customers, communities, and employees and continually improve our impact over time. In today’s market, B Corp status sets us apart as a purpose-driven leader, assuring clients and partners that we walk the walk on sustainability and ethics.

What Is B Corporation Certification and Why It Matters

B Lab awards B Corporation (B Corp) certification to companies that demonstrate excellence in social and environmental responsibility. The certification process measures a company’s entire business model against comprehensive criteria. In fact, B Lab’s B Impact Assessment evaluates operations across governance, workers, community, environment, and customer impact. We are honoured to have met these high standards. This matters because B Corp certification brings clear benefits: it builds trust with our stakeholders, attracts and retains talented employees, and demonstrates to clients that we truly prioritise purpose alongside profit. In a business landscape where clients demand ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) accountability, our B Corp status serves as an independent proof point that Compliant Ltd genuinely operates ethically and sustainably.

For example, B Lab requires that certified companies achieve an overall score of at least 80 out of 200 on the impact assessment. This benchmark ensures rigorous performance: the verification process involves detailed documentation and review of our policies and outcomes. Becoming a B Corp also legally commits us to consider all stakeholders, not just shareholders in our decisions. In short, B Corp certification is a gold standard that validates our way of doing business, and it gives everyone (clients, partners, community members) confidence that our promises are backed by audit and accountability.

Aligning with Our Mission and Values

Sustainability and stakeholder focus have always been at the core of Compliant Ltd.’s mission. We emphasise “collaboratively working with our stakeholders” and prioritise people and the planet in every aspect of our work. Long before seeking B Corp status, we built our business on the principle that international standards and ethical practices go hand in hand. For example, Compliant is already carbon neutral. Through our partnership with Carbon Neutral Britain, we have measured, reduced, and offset our carbon footprint so that our operations are now fully carbon neutral. This achievement reflects our commitment to environmental stewardship and provides a strong foundation for the Environmental Impact area of the B Impact Assessment. We also integrate the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals into our strategy and encourage our clients to do the same.

By becoming a Certified B Corp, we have formalised these values. This certification represents our dedication to transparency, accountability, and social and environmental responsibility. In practical terms, we updated our governance documents to incorporate stakeholder interests (employees, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment) into our corporate purpose, as required by B Lab’s standards. Internally, this means every strategic decision is evaluated for its impact on all our stakeholders, not just shareholders. Achieving B Corp status was not a departure from our goals; it was a natural next step that cements what we already do every day.

Our environmental initiatives are a concrete example. We have achieved carbon neutrality (as noted above), and we maintain an ISO 14001-certified Environmental Management System to continually improve our green performance. For instance, we have strict recycling and energy efficiency programs, utilise renewable energy where possible, and track our resource usage. These practices not only align with the B Impact Assessment’s Environment pillar, but they also allow us to present measurable data (e.g. emission reductions, energy savings) when being assessed. In other words, we literally build sustainability from the ground up. Our commitment to the environment has earned us high marks in the BIA, underscoring how the B Corp ethos aligns perfectly with our mission to “walk the walk” on sustainability.

Steps We Took to Become B Corp Certified

  1. B Impact Assessment and Planning: We began by registering with B Lab and completing a comprehensive B Impact Assessment to benchmark our performance. This exercise covered governance, social impact, environment, workers, and customers. The assessment highlighted our strengths and identified areas to improve. With this insight, our leadership set clear goals and assembled a cross-functional team to drive the certification process.
  2. Environmental Initiatives: We prioritised the Environment pillar with concrete actions. We had already achieved ISO 14001 certification for environmental management, which meant we had rigorous policies in place for reducing waste and energy use. Notably, we partnered with Carbon Neutral Britain, ensuring that any remaining emissions are offset and that our entire business is carbon neutral. These efforts enabled us to present B Lab with the quantitative results of our sustainability initiatives, which contributed to a strong score in the environmental section.
  3. Community & Social Impact: We deepened our social contributions in line with the Community Impact area. For example, we aligned with our employees’ values by nominating their own charities to receive a donation. These actions showed B Lab that Compliant Ltd is not just in business for profit – we are actively reinvesting in the community and the well-being of others.
  4. Governance & Ethics: Good governance was already a strong focus at Compliant, and we reinforced it for B Corp. We have formally amended our company’s governing documents to include stakeholder interests, as required by B Corp standards. This means our articles explicitly oblige directors to consider employees, customers, suppliers, the community and the environment, not just shareholders. We also maintain robust compliance systems by being certified to the five main management standards, reflecting our disciplined approach to ethics. Internally, we enhanced transparency by sharing more business performance information with employees and by adopting a strict Code of Conduct. All these governance and ethics measures drove up our score in the Governance section of the impact assessment.
  5. Employee Engagement & Well-being: Our people are our greatest asset, so investing in them was key. We already use ISO 45001 for health and safety management, ensuring a safe workplace. Beyond that, we reviewed our HR practices, ensuring fair compensation, comprehensive benefits, professional development budgets, and flexible working options where possible. We also strengthened our employee feedback processes so that every team member has a voice in how we operate. When preparing for the B Impact Assessment, we documented all our training hours, safety records, and engagement initiatives. These commitments translated into high marks under the Workers category.
  6. Ethical Business Practices and Client Relations: It was essential to us that our customer relationships reflect our values. As an ISO 9001 certified company, we have a rigorous quality management system that emphasises customer satisfaction and ethical service. We complemented this with an internal policy to vet clients and suppliers: we only enter partnerships with organisations that meet our standards for human rights, environmental responsibility, and integrity. By doing so, we ensured that the Customers section of the B Impact Assessment recognised us for delivering value responsibly and upholding high ethical standards with our clients.
  7. Certification Process: Finally, once our policies and improvements were in place, we submitted the B Impact Assessment for formal review. Our documentation (from energy usage logs to HR records and policy manuals) was evaluated by B Lab’s analysts. We underwent a verification interview and answered detailed questions about each area of the assessment. Ultimately, we surpassed the required 80-point benchmark for certification. We then signed the B Corp Agreement and published our B Corp profile and score. This rigorous process, which includes mandatory recertification every three years, requires us to verify and improve our impact over time.

Collectively, these steps ensured we had substantial evidence for every part of the B Impact Assessment. Our pre-existing ISO management systems proved invaluable. For example, our ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 records supplied data for the Customers and Environment sections, and our health and safety and HR records supported the Workers section. By systematically addressing the criteria, we achieved high scores across the board and proudly met B Lab’s standards for certification.
